Multi Tool Accessories

For a long while, the oscillating multitool was the sole domain of trade professionals. Fein was the only company to produce them. However, as soon as their patent expired, a plethora of companies started to offer the same tools. Not only did this unlock this versatile piece of kit to both the handyman and DIY user, but it also allowed a wave of brand-new accessories to enter the market.

On this page, we want to introduce you to the various multi-tool accessories you will be able to use on your oscillating multitool.

Sanding Attachments and Pads

Perhaps one of the most useful of multi-tool accessories will be the good old sanding pad.

These pads will allow you to stick palm sander sanding sheets right onto your oscillating multi-tool.

This will allow you to sand down and smooth wood with absolute ease. If you pick up the right sanding sheets, then you will even be able to sand down glass, metal, and even a bit of stone.

You can get real versatile with your sanding pads too. While most people think of them as a way to take vast amounts of material off of something, they don't need to be. For example, if you picked up a very fine grade sanding sheet, you may even be able to use the multi-tool for a spot of polishing.

High Carbon Steel (HCS) Cutting Blades

Have you got one of the following to cut?:

  • Wood
  • Plastics
  • Other soft materials e.g. very soft metal

Well, then you can pick yourself up some high carbon steel cutting blades. Put these onto your oscillating multi-tool and you will be cutting through that material like it is butter.

These blades come in a variety of shapes and styles.  For example, you have plunge cut options when you need to make super-straight cuts on a single pass.  You have options that allow you to cut directly into the wood in a wall (ideal if you are cutting out an area for a plug socket, for instance). You even have Japanese-style blades. These fine blades will allow much more precision cuts. It takes a lot less effort to cut wood with a Japanese-style blade too.

High-Speed Steel (HSS) and Titanium Cutting Blades

When you are starting to get into the territory of cutting metals (e.g. nails or copper pipe), then you can move into the high-speed steel blade category. They are going to be the perfect choice for woodworkers, plumbers, and a whole load of other professions.

If you are dealing with particularly tough metals, or want something that lasts a little bit longer, then titanium cutting blades are the route to go down.

Remember, these blades are also going to be working on your woods, plastics, and soft materials. This means that if you are planning on cutting a little bit of everything, then HSS or titanium may be a better option for you.

Diamond Blades and Grouting Tools

Got ceramic or porcelain tiles that need to be cut? Why pull out that tile cutting tool? All you need to do is get some diamond blades hooked up to your oscillating multi-tool, and you are going to be done with your work by lunchtime!

These blades will cut through the material incredibly easily. Just make sure that if you are cutting porcelain, the area is kept wet to prevent overheating.

This won't be the only tile job you will be able to complete with your multi-tool either. You will also be able to remove grout from between tiles, The job is going to be easier than it has ever been!
